This week’s dose of inspiration comes from Sweden-based designer, Naina Shenoy.
It should come as no surprise that this forward-thinker decided to pursue her sustainable design goals in the epicenter of boundary-pushing furniture design, Sweden, the birthplace of IKEA.
Naina’s work contains elements of her Indian culture blended with the practical furniture designs we’ve come to expect from IKEA. We particularly liked her Bounce project, which is a perfect combination of flexible, modular design and culturally relevant furniture.

Who are you and what do you do?
I am a designer from India. I love my roots, yet I am ever curious about all cultures around the world. I recently graduated from my Masters of Arts program that focused on innovation, design and sustainability in Sweden.
How did you get started?
As a designer and individual, my aim was to be inspired, dwell and maintain a beautiful world. However, with the harsh realities of this planet and people, my journey is to figure out new ways of sustainable living starting from home living and things.
What sets you apart?
My dual outlook. The positive and motivated outlook on finding new and exciting ways to live sustainably, while also having a very pessimistic outlook on the ongoing destruction of mother earth and our collective mental well-being that is the result of today’s lifestyle and culture.
What obstacles did you have to overcome?
Mostly mental well-being issues and attention deficit.
Do you have any tips for other creators?
Believe in your intuition and self. Collaboration, feedback and reviews go a long way to creating anything.
